the ‘decider’ decides when the oboe comes in

Maestro BushCo., very scary.

This reminds me of an old saying amongst orchestral musicians…..

Conductors are like condoms….. they keep it safe, but take all the feeling out of it.

Can’t say the same for the ‘decider’ I reckon.

Funny, first professional symphony audition I won was for Falletta and the Virginia Symphony. Wound up declining the position and stayed in Canada.

I guess I could have been there to give BuchCo. my two cents. Damn.

Techno musicians make the same comparison about live drummers ie ‘it’s better not to use one but sometimes you just have to’.

At one point, a band I played for went through a techno phase (I was the only live player in a 4 piece).
We had produced an anti drugs song funded by one of the Health Agencies and there was a big official premier when it was released.
After the premier, later that evening, we played at a junior rave. No alcohol, but plenty of dope I am sure.
Started the gig and we were met by a torrent of condoms (unused) thrown at the stage.
Finished the gig covered in condoms.
Turned out that this was a show of appreciation from that particular grouping.
Really weird for this old blueser though.
My, then, 12 year old daughter had wanted to come and see me play but I had refused her on the grounds that I couldn’t really look after her.

We had needed to seek permission from David Bowie to use a snippet from one of his songs within ours ‘I’m happy, hope you’re happy too..’
It had taken us a year to do and he finally let us use it free – it was for a ‘good’ cause, after all.
We didn’t bother asking for permission to use the guitar riff from ‘Ace of Spades’.

    And the song?
Bombed totally in the UK – the producer did a runner with the pressing money and the Cds weren’t available in the shops till it was too late.
Hit the top ten in Italy, of all places, though.
Ah well, back to the drawing board.

“The court’s clown doing his job” was my first reaction.

Thank God I haven’t to listen to an orchestra conducted by him, his baton is doing too many ravages in the “other” field to subject us to his deceitful musical tastes.

speaking of techo-phase … a bass player friend of mine was always checking out the local ads from bad local bands looking for “serious-only” musicians … and he used to threaten to put up an ad of his own, that would read:

“Synth and Drum Machine looking for Singer to form techno-pop trio. Serious only.”

keep up the good blogging, ranger!

Really sorry about that WP. I’ve had a few comments ditched to the spam bin in the last couple days. Please let me know if it happens again. I will contact help support, but I think you’ve been put on a list after posting a comment here a couple days ago that had couple too many links.
    Thanks for the comments though!

In a similar vain to your synth add, this audition advert slipped through the filter and made the AFM Musician’s Union Paper sometime recently. Pretty funny shit.

Presently watching Blair wax poetic in the Rose Garden while Bush shits all over the situation. What a pair these guys make. Every time Bush speaks in a forum with Blair he seems so insecure and he puts himself on the defensive. He tries so hard to improvise or leave his page as Blair does quite easily, and every time he just winds up sounding like a complete Jackass. One of the worst statesmen, if one can even call him that, that America has ever had, if not the worst.

They express vehemently no regrets and no change in direction in the middle east. No shit. They will never stop.

    Bush said:
“Blair’s not a blowhard, he’s respected in the international community, and people respect this guy, even when he’s not always right. That’s why I like him and that’s why I think he’s the right guy.”
    Brilliant!

That’s really funny. Thanks a lot.

Here in bushzarro world, we need things to laugh at, otherwise we’ll all go right bonkers!

Back in the summer of 2001 I used to get several jokes a day in my email; after 9/11 I got none. Nobody thought anything was funny for months … and now that we seem to be getting a bit of sense of humor back again — even if most of the jokes are bad.

Well, most of my jokes are bad!
