I know EP.
Ben Harper is a man, a free man, and smart and wonderfully artistic human being fighting the good fight.
There are live versions of this song on the net that are just amazing. There’s a lot of vid on youtube that I’d recommend to anyone looking for a bit of enlightened and extremely well written and performed grassroots soul music. This is the art and part of America that isn’t endorsed enough.
Cheers
Yes, I wasn’t sure how to feel about the burning guitars. Would like to think it was all camera tricks and that…”no guitars were hurt during the making of the video.”
The more I watch and listen to this song and vid the more I love it. Great mix of ethnic sounds and so much passion from Ben. Brilliant visual artwork too.
Hi guys,
L.I., I know exactly what you mean about those guitars and the idea of destroying musical instruments for art’s sake is a little bit ‘off’ to me too. I hope it’s smoke and mirrors.
Here’s some more great stuff. Enjoy.

“What good is a man
Who won’t take a stand
What good is a cynic
With no better plan”
I love this song. Thanks Loneranger. I think I might be that cynic. Hope not.

I loved the first take of the song.
A mystical feel with the eastern accompanyments.
But I am never comfortable
with burning and breaking of guitars.
Call it a third world mentality.
When I was young,
er, younger
and played guitar in a band,
buying good instuments was beyond our reach.
Watching burning guitars always made us sad.
