As the ‘06 mid-term elections in the US come to a close I’m left with a feeling of disappointment. These two parties are so similar that one could be substituted for the other. Just flip the color schemes and -poof- democrat is republican and vice a versa. Is it statistically possible that these elections, especially in VA and Montana, are this close? How is that possible? The feeling of being force fed one party or the other is beginning to stimulate my gag reflex.. And when contenders in places like my home state of Virginia are running virtually on the same platform, how can one be considered an opposition party? Where is the opposition? When there is a margin of less than one percent between two identical parties I suppose it’s easy to claim to speak for the entire country during a celebratory speech. Citizens have been conditioned to believe they have a choice. Their hands are forced into voting blue or red when in reality it is just one purple vote. The rest of the rainbow is not represented in the system. So much of the public doesn’t associate with either of these parties. When will a new voice be heard at the top? It’s important to note, only 36% percent of eligible voters found it important enough to take part in this “decision“. What does that say about the current state of affairs in our country?
As of this moment, all the votes have yet to be counted. So we may have to sit and listen to this garbage for another month or so. The idea that voting machines and methods are malfunctioning in many places, causing more difficulty determining winners and losers while jading voters all over the country is more than a little disturbing. In today’s modern world, how can this be so difficult and why must it be a different method from place to place? This procedure must be reformed, become homogeneous and efficient. Our most important civic duty deserves legitimacy? Presently, it’s a joke.
The democrats are bound to lead the house with a limp hand . Their first majority in 12 years should be reason to grab the proverbial bull by the horns and take the country in different directions. I fear it will be more of the same avoidance of relevant issues.. The unrepresented will continue to be pushed to the margins and our arms will continue to lose feeling from being thrown into the air for so long.
As I write this it seems as though old Rumproast ,or Mr. Happy if you like, has been forced out of his position high atop the Mountain of Bull. Maybe there is hope after all.
